As an immigrant from Poland, moving to the UK at the age of nine was a surreal experience. I always knew my mother’s decisions were for survival, and to thrive in new surroundings; yet I feel nostalgic towards my birthplace. It has been twelve years since leaving Poland, and during my absence I have adapted to the way of life in the UK. Now, I find myself in a liminal position of belonging yet detached from my place of origin – leaving me in a limbo state.

Through compared documentation of familiar environments in Poland and the UK, I have identified contrasts and similarities between the countries. This series takes form as a photobook, which explores the search for clarity through further study into my own life, discovering the constant feeling of displacement, suppressed into my sub-conscious.
